360Flex and Giving Back to the Community

Tom and I were planning to do a cool Steve Jobs "one more thing" during the keynote in Atlanta, but decided to bring it up now instead. Should (I really, really, really hope) 360|Flex Atlanta turn a profit, we'll be splitting that profit 80-10-10.

Que?

We talk a lot about giving back, and decided to (literally) put our money where our mouth is. We've already mentioned, the free full day training the Sunday before Atlanta, but why not actually 'give' something back. Here's how we're going to break it down.

80% will go to 360Conferences, Inc. It's not a non-profit organization after all, and we'd like to eventually pay ourselves... something.

10% will go to a Flex community project. We're not sure which, maybe The Flex Show to buy new gear, maybe a laptop for degrafa, who knows? We'd just like to support community efforts in the technology space the conference is based upon, i.e. Flex. We're open to suggestions by the way, if you have some ideas on how to do this.

The last 10% will go to a more far reaching charity organization. Some one working to make the world better somehow; maybe the EFF (love those guys!), maybe the Galapagos Conservancy (love me the boobies). Again, who knows, and we're open to suggestions.

Basically, we decided that while 360|Flex is helping change the face of conferences, we can also help change the world and the Flex community, even if just a little bit. We think that's pretty cool, hence our wanting to share now. Which ever groups we choose, will be announced during our wrap up keynote, but we just couldn't sit on the idea until February.

We hope this raises a bar in the business world. I know we're not the first to donate some profits to charity, but it's not exactly commonplace either. We do think we are the first to do it in the conference space.

Do you want to go to a great community driven conference and support great causes at the same time? You know what to do then. See you in Atlanta!

360Flex Want a full day of Flex training for free?

We hate the whole nickel and diming of attendees for "pre-conference workshops" or "post-conference repeats".

We've noticed these extra-curricular activities can sometimes cost as much or more than the conference registration. What's the point of charging for these? Nothing comes to our minds, other than conferences wanting higher profits. While we're all for profits (which company isn't?), we think there's a limit to have to achieve it. Overcharging is not a valid path to profitability in our books.

Therefore, we'll be offering a free extra day of Flex 101 hands-on training as part of your conference registration. No extra charge, no hidden fees, no adjustable rate after six months, nothing. Want a day of 101 training on Flex to get you up to speed before the conference? Show up Sunday and get it. Then when the conference starts Monday and you want/need more, we will still have our Hands-On Track to enjoy.

The real benefit of doing the 101 training on the Sunday before the show is for those needing either a refresher on Flex or a quick introduction. Now you won't miss out on Monday's sessions. Plus, with the newbie training being on Sunday, this allows for us to venture into more advanced hands-on sessions during the conference.

Many things, like this, set us apart from other conferences. We'll be talking about some of those differences later, but we're always looking for more ways to improve. If you have an idea on how to make the conference better for you, don't hesitate to drop a comment here, an email to info@360flex.com or join the yahoo group.

If you think this is a good idea, help us get the word out. Blog it and tell your friends. Sunday all day Flex 101 training, included in the price of registration, which in case you've forgotten, is $480.00 for a single registration or $1500 for a team of four.

360Flex loves us some soda

Especially when it has our ugly mugs on the bottle!

The topic of Jones Soda went around twitter the other day and Jeff made sure I saw it, and wham-O! Juan had this great image up.

I'd buy it by the case if they made it. Even if it did taste like turkey or mashed potatoes. I wouldn't drink it, but there'd be plenty of it at our conferences for all you to enjoy!

Rumor has it that those retro 3-D glasses will make an appearance in Atlanta. Look for Ben Stucki to make use of them and amaze you! Register now for 360Flex Atlanta to see true 3-D via ActionScript!
