360|Flex Camp: Update on the Drupal Session From Michael

Michael Caudy, one of our speakers at the camp, just sent us this.

I will be giving a talk entitled "Using Drupal with Flex" at the upcoming 360|Flex Camp conference in New Jersey, on September 26-27, 2008. The purpose of this talk will be to introduce Flex developers to the wonders and awesomeness of Drupal - a free, open source Content Management System and web development framework.

For the talk, I am creating a demo Drupal site - DrupalFlex - built on Drupal 5.10. This site will include many basic Drupal features as a CMS: integration of blogging, RSS, forums, taxonomies, etc., which are al part of the core functionality built into Drupal, and which can be enabled without installing any additional Drupal modules.

The DrupalFlex demo will also incorporate additional, non-core Drupal
modules that provide greatly increased functionality, in particular,
to provide enhanced "Web 2.0" / "Rich Internet Application"
functionality.

Finally - and most importantly - I will show how the Drupal CMS /
framework can be used as a back-end / web app development framework on
which feature-rich Flex / Flash applications can be developed, and
served over the internet.

See my additional blog posts, the example forums, and other web pages
on the DrupalFlex site, for additional information as this site - and
demo presentation - are developed. Also, please feel free to make
comment posts on the site, add new forum topics, register and post
blogs about Drupal and/or Flex, etc.

360Flex Camp New Jersey Unit Testing your apps.

Unit testing is important. I know it, you know it, I think even my mom knows it, though she probably just heard about it at a Jafra meeting.

That said, if you're not using Unit Testing in your Flex apps, you should be. Jeff Tapper of Digital Primates, will be presenting on Fluint, formerly known (like Prince was, ya know) as dpUnit.

Based loosely on the concepts of FlexUnit and its ancestor JUnit, fluint provides enhanced asynchronous support, a graphical test runner, integration with continuous build systems and an optional Adobe AIR client for directory watching.
It adds support for:
  • Multiple simultaneous asynchronous operations
  • Asynchronous setup and teardown
  • Asynchronous returns before method body completion
  • Support for UIComponent testing
  • Support for test sequences
  • Support for testing Cairngorm commands and controllers
  • XML output of testing results
  • Support for externalizing tests in modules

360Flex Camp New Jersey session: Farata Systems cool productivity components

Victor Rasputnis will be with us in New Jersey to talk about the cool Flex components that Farata Systems has been working on. I had the opportunity to talk to Yakov from Farata for the Flex Show, so I know exactly how cool and useful these components are.

Did I mention that they're free? Yeah free. If you plan to OEM them, there's a charge, of course. but if you're just baking these great components into your app, you're free to do so.

Wondering why I haven't mentioned what the compenents are? Duh! That'd spoil the surprise, you're just gonna have to join us on Saturday to hear all about them!

Party Time at the Office

What's a 360 Event without some drink and breaking bread in a relaxed setting?

When John and I started 360|Conferences, one of our goals was to get people not only together to learn from speakers but to meet and learn from one another as attendees. The easiest way to do that is in a relaxed setting with food and drink.

360|Flex Camp will continue that tradition.  After the sessions on Saturday, we're all going to head on over to the Office. No, not Jason's office, his rave throwing days are behind him now. Instead, we'll be heading the the Office Bar and Grill. 360|Conferences will be picking up the tab on some food and drink.

This party is included in your low cost $150 ticket. Register now and come join the party. You don't want to miss hanging with some of the best and brightest in the flex community.

360Flex Camp New Jeresy - Flex and Drupal integration

We've got a great line up for everyone at 360|Flex Camp New Jersey, and among the great sessions, we're going to have Michael Caudy talk about integrating Flex with Drupal. "Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website." That's from the site :)

Integrating Drupal and Flex, seems to be a pretty common topic these days, as more and more people see the benefits of using Drupal.

Michael will be presenting Saturday the 27th along with our other great speakers (more on them in other posts!)

Don't miss out, on the first 360|Flex goodness to hit the eastern sea board! Register now, time's running out!
